What is Microneedling?

Micro-needling technique that works to tighten and rejuvenate the skin. It is effective in reducing scars caused by surgery, acne and also helps with the appearance stretch marks. Dermapen is safe on all skin types and is administered with very little discomfort or downtime.

How Microneedling works

The Dermapen is a micro-needling system that uses a disposable tip consisting micro-needles that penetrate the skin creating micro-injuries that stimulate collagen production. This encourages the body to repair through the skins normal physiological process.

Is Microneedling painful?

You will arrive 30 minutes prior to your Dermapen procedure for topical numbing, although the procedure is tolerable we prefer to make it as comfortable as we can for the patient.

What are the effects immediately after treatment?

Immediately after your microneedling procedure you will experience redness, pinpoint bleeding, minimal swelling and you may feel like you have had a mild sunburn. All of these effects are a normal response post procedure. This is considered a minimal downtime procedure, you may resume normal daily activity the following day and any residual redness may be covered with makeup.

How many Microneedling Treatments will I need?

The benefits of one microneedling procedure will be apparent, however we recommend 3-6 treatments 4 to 6 weeks apart for optimal results. The number of treatments needed will vary based on the patient and what we are trying to achieve.

How Micronedling with PRP Works

This therapy is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment with quick recovery time, and is designed to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production. The treatment actually involves the use of two procedures, micro-needling and PRP (platelet rich plasma) done consecutively.

Micro-Needling

The first procedure is called Micro-Needling. A small hand held, automatic device that contains tiny micro-needles is passed over the skin creating tiny micro-wounds, or channels, on the skin. During the body’s natural wound-healing process of these channels, collagen and elastin are automatically produced.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

PRPThe second procedure is called PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). Platelet Rich Plasma is produced from an individual’s own blood. After a blood sample is obtained from a patient, the blood is put into a centrifuge, which is a tool that separates the PRP from the blood. The blood is spun for approximately 15 minutes.

PRP contains highly concentrated amounts of natural growth factors and other cytokines that promote the regeneration process of soft tissues. The PRP is applied directly to the channels that were created from the micro-needling to further stimulate the natural healing process and creation of collagen.

Recovery

After the treatment, your skin will be slightly pink and feel slightly sunburned. For most people, your skin will completely recover in 24-72 hours. Your body’s collagen production usually takes about 4-8 weeks, so you will continue to see improvements over this time.

The Process

  • Initial Consultation
  • Procedure Time: Approximately 60 Minutes
  • Sessions Required for Optimal Results: 3+ (4 Weeks Apart)
  • Recovery Time: No Downtime – Slightly Pink Skin for 24-72 Hours
